West Wing Staff
St Magnus Nursing

St Magnus Nursing Courtyard Unit provides care for 15 residents on single rooms for either male or female patients. East Wing has 27 beds, 20 beds are male, and 7 beds are mixed sex. West Wing has 20 beds, 12 beds are mixed sex and 8 beds are female. In addition, St Magnus is our headquarter site providing Human Resources, Finance, and the Estates facilities.
The services care for patients aged 55 years and above with a functional illness (e.g. schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder etc.) plus elderly patients requiring more focussed care.
Yes, although primarily services for older people with mental health problems, St Magnus has been set up to care for the physical care needs as well as the mental health care needs of people subject to the aging process, concurrent physical health problems and progressive, degenerative organic illnesses. We employ general nurses as well as mental health nurses to assist in meeting the physical health needs of our residents and patients.
We provide specialist low secure services for men on the St Magnus site, these are locked wards with a higher security rating than our locked ward recovery services and form part of the secure hospital estate for the country. The Locked ward recovery service provides for patients who are detained to the hospital under the Mental Health Act and require treatment as part of their detention.
We have a range of specialist staff including: – • Forensic psychiatrists • Older age psychiatrists • GP services • Registered Mental health and Registered General (adult) nurses • Associate nurses • Support Workers/care staff • Social workers • Psychology • Occupational Therapy • Speech and Language therapy • Other therapies including music, drama, art, physiotherapy • Chefs • Housekeepers

All of our services are paid for by the NHS and or Local Authority commissioning groups. All of our patients are NHS patients who require our specialist services that are not provided for or provided for in sufficient quantity or specialism, at NHS hospitals.
All of our services are registered with and regulated by, the external independent Health and Social Care regulator – The Care Quality Commission. St Magnus Hospital is rated as Outstanding. Yes, we do. Although our St Magnus site is in Haslemere, Surrey, we accept referrals from across the United Kingdom. Our main commissioning partners are in London and the South of England; however, we have patients from as far afield as Scotland with us.
Most of our services are designed to maintain and improve people’s mental and physical health and wellbeing across a range of facilities accommodating differing and fluctuating needs. Some patients may stay for six months, and some may stay for longer, moving through our range of services as their condition improves or their assessed needs change.
